dragon age: origins

Dragon Age: Origins was recently released here in Japan, and is
currently getting the heavy in-store push (dunno why the long delay,
maybe there's a lot of dialogue to be translated...). The store
displays are kinda enticing, so I'm wondering if it's worth picking up
(at the somewhat elevated prices big games have when they're first
released).

Looking over reviews, it seemed to get a fair number of pretty good
reviews, but also a lot of people saying it was a bit too derivative,
too samey, just like WoW, not much innovation, etc.

But... in my case, I've never played WoW, and in fact I've never played
any western-style RPG.

Do people here think DA:O might be a good introduction to this genre,
and a fun game viewed in that light?

it's fun for sure, but if you've played nothing of it's type i'd say get
elder scrolls oblivion first - it's fantastic, and if you have the game
of the year edition with lots of extra content, even more so.

it's fun for sure, but if you've played nothing of it's type i'd say get
elder scrolls oblivion first - it's fantastic, and if you have the game of
the year edition with lots of extra content, even more so.

I'd personally recommend getting Dragon Age: Origins over Elder Scrolls IV:
Oblivion. While Oblivion was good, DA:O is vastly superior. you can have
multiple party members in DA:O, all of which you can set up "tactics" for,
telling them what actions/spells to perform when certain situations are met.
The combat is MUCH better in DA:O, as well. In Oblivion, it's just your
character, that that's it. Oblivion also tends to get quite repetitious
near the last few hours of the game. Both are worthy purchases, and
must-owns if you like the Action-RPG genre, but get DA:O first.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Both games look interesting.

I thought ES:O might be cheaper as it was released (in Japan) several
years ago, but seems to still be the same price as DA:O on amazon...
